Getting your Supplies – Lights

When you’re growing marijuana plants you are able to use fluorescent lights during the seedling and vegetative phases but once you reach the flowering phase you will have to switch up your lighting setup. Once you start with the flowering phase you will have to use a high pressure sodium (hps) or metal halide (mh) lighting fixture.

Cost

For only one hps or mh light (from 250 watts to 1000 watts) you will probably be paying around $200-500. Keep in mind that you need both the light bulbs, fixture, and a ballast in order to grow your marijuana plants with it.

Plants

If you only use about two ounces of dope every month then you will probably just need to use a 400w hps or mh light with your hydroponic system in a 4x4 growing area with about ten plants.

This is a sufficient amount of plants under this lighting and works great if you are a first time grower. If you don’t want to grow that many ganja plants then you can use a 250w hps or mh light instead if your crop will be smaller. The yield you get from growing the dope plants with a 250w grow light will be less then it would if you used a 400w grow light. Growing 5-7 plants under a 250w grow light in your hydroponic setup is usually sufficient for those who don’t smoke a lot of weed in a month.

Flood Lights

You should be getting hps and mh lights which are meant to be used as grow lights. You can get them as flood lights instead but they will not be as efficient and are not preferred when growing dope plants.
