Growing Media – Sand
Sand is very easy to get and in most cases would be completely free to get quite a bit of it but it may not be a great choice for a growing media when growing cannabis plants. In some cases sand is used in gardens but it is usually chosen by growers in order to benefit the drainage. Sometimes sand is used to play the role of a ballast and minimize the chance of containers blowing over when they are growing outside. When dealing with marijuana plants you probably don’t want to use sand.
Sand
The best type of growing sand available would be deep mined sharp sands. This type of sand consists of silicon dioxide as one of the main ingredients. You don’t want to use calcareous sands or any sands that were extracted from an ocean. The density of sand is not preferred and most of the time it is not a primary growing media.
The only reasons that anyone considers using sand as a growing media is because it’s cheap and easy to attain. However whether you are growing one plant or a thousand dope plants it’s not a good choice. Sand is a lot heavier (density) then other growing mediums you have to sterilize it in between each usage, and it also has difficulties draining.
