Growing Media – Gravel

The gravel which is found in various aquariums could be used as a growing media. Various other small gravels can also be used in a hydroponic garden as long as they are washed before being used. This would be referred to as gravel hydroponics and while it is not a common thing when growing cannabis plants it is still done sometimes. You would set up a gravel filter bed and add a strong flowing circulation of water (worth electric power head pumps) but not many choose to do this when growing weed plants.

Gravel

The main benefits of using gravel as a growing media would include the fact that it’s not very expensive, not hard for you to clean, and is easier to drain so it won’t end up blocking the drains or ruining your pumps.

The main downside of using gravel as a growing media is the fact that it is so heavy. If your marijuana plants are not in a hydroponic system with a continuous water circulation then the roots of your dope plants could end up drying out. This can cause your ganja plants to die. If you are running a hydroponic system which will continuously distribute water then you could safely use gravel as a growing media but there are many other mediums which are much lighter and are a better option.
